  1. Long-tailed Central American bird. The male
  2. is brightly coloured, with green, red, blue,
  3. and white feathers, and is about 1.3 m/4.3 ft
  4. long including tail. The female is smaller
  5. and lacks the tail and plumage. It eats
  6. fruit, insects, and small frogs and lizards.
  7. It is the national emblem of Guatemala, and
  8. was considered sacred by the Mayans and the
  9. Aztecs. The quetzal's forest habitat is
  10. rapidly being destroyed, and hunting of birds
  11. for trophies or souvenirs also threatens its
  12. survival.
  13.
